James Shields–Given the cost and length of his contract and the fact that the Rays probably aren’t selling tells me he’s not going anywhere.

Edinson Volquez–Maybe, but you have to give a lot to get strikeouts. Might not be worth the cost. Same with Vargas, though I wouldn’t rule it out.

Huston Street–I’ve heard the Cards are interested in him and hope they pick him up. ‘Pen needs work badly.

Brett Myers–He can be a starter too, so he could help out the rotation or the bullpen.

Actually, in most semi-pro leagues, players ARE playing for money. Some are currently being scouted, played in the minors, or some even have had MLB experience. Josh Kinney of the Cardinals came out that league several years ago. I’m pretty sure they do not have to get offseason jobs either. They are paid fairly well considering it is such a small market

I feel the opposite. What makes baseball so entertaining is how both teams have to deal with the same conditions, even if that means a bad call here or there
